India’s largest and oldest Apex business organisation, FICCI, joins IRU

TINNews |

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has joined IRU bringing nearly 300,000 members to the global network.

Established in 1927, FICCI’s history is closely linked to India’s struggle for independence, its industrialisation and its emergence as one of the most rapidly growing global economies.

Being a non-government, not-for-profit organisation, FICCI is the voice of India’s business and industry articulating its views and concerns.

FICCI’s members are from the Indian private and public corporate sectors and multinational companies with diverse regional chambers of commerce and industry across states. It provides a platform for networking and consensus building within and across sectors and is the first port of call for Indian industry, policy makers and the international business community.

Since 1989, FICCI has been the national guaranteeing association of India under the ATA carnet system which facilitates temporary import or export of goods, including for exhibitions and fairs, and professional equipment.

In view of the Indian authorities’ accession to the TIR Convention, the Indian Government has officially appointed FICCI as the TIR guaranteeing association. IRU and FICCI have already started close cooperation for an early implementation of the TIR system in India.
