IRU calls on transport ministers to implement global solutions and training to reduce road accidents

TINNews |

IRU Secretary General, Umberto de Pretto, today urged Ministers at the Transport Ministers Forum on Road Safety in New Delhi to use hard data to target the main causes of accidents involving heavy commercial vehicles, namely human behaviour, and stressed the need to train all road users to share the roads safely.

He joined Jean Todt, UN Envoy for Road Safety, at the forum organised by the International Road Federation, in calling upon Transport Ministers from eight countries to implement the tried and tested UN Transport Safety conventions and agreements to ensure a legal and technical framework designed for effectively improving road safety.

Ministers heeded the joint call and unanimously decided to include this in their final Ministerial declaration.
