The Victorian Government in Australia has awarded a contract to RECivil for constructing a major roundabout at the intersection of the Murray Valley Highway and Warren Street in Echuca.

The construction of the roundabout is considered to be an important step in Echuca-Moama Bridge Project.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said: “This is the first stage of the A$280m ($222m) Echuca-Moama Bridge Project, which is the centrepiece of the Australian Government’s commitment to improving the safety of roads in the region.”

The A$3.77m ($2.9m) intersection upgrade is expected to address long-standing community concerns about safety at the dangerous Y-shaped intersection, making it much safer and easier for commuters, and larger freight vehicles to enter and leave Echuca.

"This is the first stage of the A$280m ($222m) Echuca-Moama Bridge Project, which is the centrepiece of the Australian Government’s commitment to improving the safety of roads in the region."

The intersection project will also pave the way for a second Murray crossing in the region.

For the Echuca-Moama Bridge project, the Australian Government has committed to provide A$97m ($76.9m), while the governments of Victoria and New South Wales will provide A$96m ($76.1m), and A$87m ($68.9m), respectively.

Victoria minister for roads and road safety Luke Donnellan said: “This is fantastic news for Echuca-Moama.

"This community has waited a long time for this dangerous intersection to be removed. With RECivil winning this work, this project is putting local jobs first.”
