TIN news:  TransCore has secured a contract to design, build and maintain next-generation toll collection systems along the Dulles Toll Road in Virginia, US.

The contractual covers deploying TransCore’s Infinity Digital Lane System, which manages a wide-range of tolling operations and offers stop-and-go and free-flow traffic operations.

The system can operate in any lane in cash, mixed, or all-electronic tolling (AET) mode without any functional upgrades to the existing system and, thus, will maximise the operational flexibility and investment of the toll operator.

In a $244m deal, Riverside County Transportation Commission has appointed Skanska and its joint venture partner Ames Construction to construct express lanes on the I-15 freeway in California, US.

The JV will be responsible for construction of two additional express lanes covering a distance of 23.5km, in each direction and a series of sound walls along the project corridor, as well as widening the existing bridges to add new express lanes.

Construction works will begin in 2018, with completion scheduled for mid-2020.

The World Bank has announced $60m funding for the development of rural roads in Cambodia. The development will be executed under the South East Asia Disaster Risk Management Project.

The project will see development of approximately 250km of rural roads in six provinces of the country. It will also include upgrading existing roads to make them sturdy enough to withstand flood and other natural disasters.

A joint venture between Astaldi Group and Turkish firms Makyol, Ictas and Kalyon has secured a contract worth €627m ($674.36m) to provide civil works and electromechanical systems for the Kirazli-Halkal section of the Istanbul Underground project.

The contract will be completed in 2.5 years and includes construction of a 10km of double-tube tunnel, nine stations with annexed car parks and depot area.

Another joint venture between Astaldi and IC Ictas and Kaylon has won a €392m ($421.6m) contract to build, operate and transfer the Menemen-Aliaga-Candarli motorway in the province of Izmir, Turkey.

"The project will see development of approximately 250km of rural roads in six provinces of the country."

The contractual scope includes development of 14 junctions, 11 bridges, ten viaducts, seven motorway toll booths and three service areas, as well as operation and maintenance (O&M) of the motorway.

The concession will last for ten years, with three years are for construction and the rest for operation.

Highways England has appointed Aecom and its partners Mouchel and Mace to provide technical support for the £1.4bn ($1.79bn) A303 Stonehenge scheme in the UK.

As part of the eight-year contract, the A303 stretch from Amesbury to Berwick Down will be upgraded to a dual carriageway, and a new 1.8-mile tunnel will be constructed near Stonehenge.

The team will develop the project’s preliminary design, manage and lead on the development consent order application, and will provide technical assurance for detailed design and construction.
