Bentley Systems introduces new rail design and engineering software

TINNews |

Software development company Bentley Systems has introduced the new ‘OpenRail’ solution, which comprises multiple applications and services design to assist the inclusive planning, engineering, project delivery and operations of rail and transit infrastructure.

The new solution is based on Bentley’s connected data environment (CDE), which features a variety of services shared by AssetWise and the ProjectWise collaboration platform.

OpenRail also consists of various applications such as ‘OpenRail ConceptStation’ for conceptual railway planning and development and the OpenRail Designer’ solution, which enables detailed engineering and 3D design of track, overhead line, tunnels and bridges, as well as associated infrastructure.

Additionally, the solution is equipped with the AECOsim Station Designer platform to facilitate full modelling of rail and transit stations.

All individual applications are scheduled to be available from early next year.

Bentley Systems CEO Greg Bentley said: “Bentley Systems has a proven record in providing industry-leading solutions to improve project delivery and asset performance for the most challenging rail and transit projects around the world.

"Bentley Systems has a proven record in providing industry-leading solutions to improve project delivery and asset performance for the most challenging rail and transit projects around the world."

“Most of our portfolio applications are used on rail projects, and we’ve advanced BIM for rail in particular with our Rail Track offering, rail corridor maintenance optimisation through Optram, and via ComplyPro railway requirements compliance progressive assurance.

“However, the conception of these specific tools for specific purposes preceded the aspiration for what we now call 'digital workflows', where engineering deliverables are meant to be reused throughout the asset lifecycle.”

OpenRail is specially configured for rail systems engineering workflows and will leverage the ProjectWise platform to enhance collaboration among distributed engineering teams and structured workflows during project delivery.

AssetWise will provide asset lifecycle information services for linear, network and geospatial referencing, corridor maintenance decision support and inspection workflows.

The solutions’ CDE services include the Components Center for digital components, ComplyPro for progressive assurance, ContextShare for digital context and ConstructSim Systems Completions for accessing operational readiness.
