Texas Central has selected WSP USA to provide engineering support to the North Texas to Houston high-speed passenger train project, which is currently in the pre-construction phase of development.

WSP USA, formerly known as WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, specialises in providing engineering and consultancy services and has experience in designing multiple infrastructure projects worldwide.

The company will conduct engineering, cost estimating and scheduling works for the initiative under the contract.

Texas Central previously signed an agreement with Fluor Enterprises and The Lane Construction in August to carry out pre-construction planning for the bullet train project.

Texas Central CEO Carlos Aguilar said: “We are excited to partner with WSP, a company that has been involved in many iconic transportation projects around the world.

"WSP’s expertise in major infrastructure projects and our team of seasoned professionals position us well to ramp up quickly in support of the Texas Bullet Train."

“This further demonstrates the attention the Texas Bullet Train has received from world-class firms with such scale and experience.”

The 240mi bullet train project is set to connect North Texas and Houston with a journey time of roughly 90 minutes and will feature a midway stop in the Brazos Valley.

The development is set to be developed and operated without federal and state grants and is expected to create more than 10,000 direct jobs in Texas annually during the construction phase.

WSP USA transportation & infrastructure president Joseph Pulicare said: “WSP’s expertise in major infrastructure projects and our team of seasoned professionals position us well to ramp up quickly in support of the Texas Bullet Train.”

WSP has been associated with multiple high-speed rail projects worldwide, including Taiwan, China and the UK.
