Stadler presents first Flirt EMU for Dutch-German cross-border services

THE first Flirt 3 EMU for RB61 Wiehengebirgsbahn cross-border services from Bielefeld and Bad Bentheim in Germany to Hengelo in the Netherlands was presented to Keolis Germany managing director Mr Thomas Görtzen by Mr Ulf Braker, Stadler executive vice-president for Germany, at Stadler Pankow’s Berlin Wilhelmsruh plant on August 16.

Leasing company Alpha Trains awarded Stadler a contract in September 2015 to supply eight multi-system trains, which are capable of operating under 15kV 16.7Hz ac, 25kV 50Hz ac and 1.5kV dc electrification systems and equipped with ETCS Level 2 and ATB for operation on the Dutch network.

Each 90.8m-long five-car set will accommodate up to 585 passengers, 266 of them seated including 24 in first class. Interior features include high-resolution CCTV cameras, LED lighting, multilingual passenger information systems, and at-seat power sockets.

Wiehengebirgsbahn services will be operated by Eurobahn for 15 years from December as part of the Teutoburger Wald regional concession.
