Bombardier wins $968m contract to provide 83 Regio 2N trains to STIF

Bombardier Transportation has secured an order to deliver 83 Regio 2N train sets from the French National Railway Corporation, Société nationale des chemins de fer français (SNCF), on behalf of the Paris public transport authority Syndicat des Transports d’Ile-de-France (STIF).

The contract is valued at nearly $968m, including price escalations based on a best-faith assessment of assumptions.

The new trains are expected to enter service at the end of 2019 and will operate on Line N, which runs from Paris Montparnasse Station, as well as on portions of the RER D line.

Bombardier Transport France president Laurent Bouyer said: “Based on our successful Bombardier OMNEO double-deck platform, each Regio 2N offers space for 1,000 passengers, translating into more comfort and seating capacity for the busy commuter lines in the Île-de-France Region.

“It also represents a great benefit to Crespin site, the Hauts-de-France Region and the French rail industry.”

President of the Ile-de-France Region Valérie Pécresse has previously stated her intention to order additional Regio 2N vehicles during a visit to Bombardier’s Crespin site in February.

The new trains offer a colourful interior design and uncluttered onboard access platforms to enhance passenger flow to seating areas.

"Based on our successful Bombardier OMNEO double-deck platform, each Regio 2N offers space for 1,000 passengers, translating into more comfort and seating capacity for busy commuter lines."

They are also equipped with air-conditioning, power plugs to recharge passengers’ mobile devices and feature a dynamic travel information system.

STIF placed an order of 42 Regio 2N vehicles in December 2014.

The procurement of these 83 trains will bring the total number of Regio 2N units owned by the transport authority to 125.

Bombardier has delivered 341 OMNEO / Regio 2N for ten regions in France to date as part of a contact originally signed with SNCF in 2010.
