Greece wants to collaborate with Russia by creating joint ventures for the construction of Russian ships in Greek shipyards, the Greek prime ministerial adviser Dimitrios Velanis informed.

Mr. Velanis talked to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, and said that he expects a number of agreements to be signed, regarding the cooperation between the two countries in many sectors, amongst of them shipping as well.

He added that, as Greece has excellent shipyards, Russian fleet passing through the Mediterranean Sea could be serviced. In order to do that, Greece can provide competitive conditions and prices and develop this business.

Currently, there is a program for joint construction of ships, but the financial crisis in Greece affected negatively the position of Greek shipbuilding. A form of agreement can vision a partly construction on Russian shipyards, with completion in Greek ones.

The collaboration between the two countries in shipbuilding will not be new, according to sources. In the past Russia was repairing ships in some Greek shipyards every year, but that has been stopped.
