UAE bans Varun’s ships over repeated crew abandonment

TINNews |

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Transport Authority has banned all ships of the Indian Varun Resources Limited from calling the country’s ports, due to repeated crew abandonment offences.

According to sources, the ban comes following a recent crew abandonment case involving the company’s LPG tanker ‘Maharshi Vamandeva’, off Fujairah port.

Namely, the ship’s crew has been reportedly left without basic provisions, fuel, and medical care, and it has not been paid wages as well.

Several of the company’s ships have also been arrested in various countries due to unpaid bills. In June, ‘Ocean Mare’ crude oil tanker was arrested in Singapore and the ‘Maharshi Bhavatreya’ was arrested after order by the Bombay High Court earlier this year on request of unpaid workers onboard.
