Get forthcoming CICs on your radar

Global Navigation Solutions is giving its support to seafarers ahead of the forthcoming Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on navigation safety which will be jointly carried out from the Paris MoU, Tokyo MoU, Black Sea MoU, Indian Ocean MoU and Vina del Mar for three months, from 1st September up to 30 November 2017.

The maritime services group will provide advice, information and checklists that can help vessels successfully demonstrate compliance.

”GNS is committed to helping shipping companies meet the enhanced inspections with a programme of information sharing, advice and downloadable checklists which can used for preparation and planning”Hayley van Leeuwen, GNS Director of Global Marketing and Product said. The company will also provide free workshops to further help shipowners and operators with digital navigation and the changing regulation.

The Tokyo and Paris MoUs last conducted a joint CIC on safety of navigation in 2008, since when regulations for navigation equipment have evolved alongside the systems themselves. In addition to addressing ECDIS competence, the CIC will include inspections on BNWAS, AIS, VDR and steering, with an ultimate penalty of detention for non-compliance.

The related CIC questionnaire was issued earlier this summer to check compliance with the applicable requirements of the SOLAS Convention, the overall status of the vessel’s navigation safety, and the competency of crew involved in navigation operations
