Grupo Aeroportuario begins new terminal construction at Mexico’s Acapulco Airport

TIN news:   Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte has commenced construction of a new passenger terminal at Acapulco International Airport.
Also known as OMA, the airport operator aims to make a total investment of MXN547m ($29.35m) over 20 years to complete the new project.
The new passenger terminal will comprise three levels along with a mezzanine, and be constructed over a total area of 18,800m².

"The terminal will be completely transformed through intelligent engineering, which will enable us to provide greater comfort and safety for passengers, visitors, airlines, and other service providers."

Under the scope of the project, the passenger check-in area will be equipped with 34 fixed and nine automated check-in counters, while the passenger security checkpoint will have three lines operating simultaneously.
The security checkpoint will also be deployed with modern and advanced technology to help the Acapulco International Airport address all its security requirements.
OMA Board chairman Diego Quintana said: “The terminal will be completely transformed through intelligent engineering, which will enable us to provide greater comfort and safety for passengers, visitors, airlines, and other service providers.”
Once completed, the new development will be able to handle 1.3 million passengers every year.
The facility will also be provided with six boarding gates, separate arrival and departure areas, and three passenger jetways.
The terminal's new ramp area will offer six semi-contact positions, three aircraft contact positions, and six remote positions.
Expected to be completed in the second half of 2018, the Acapulco Airport terminal will have the capacity for future expansion, depending on airport traffic growth rates.
