NextGen’s Data Comm provides communications benefits at Los Angeles International Airport

TIN news:   NextGen is introducing new benefits to Los Angeles International Airport in the US through the launch of its new Data Comm technology.
Data Comm replaces existing voice communications between air traffic controllers and pilots with digital information exchanges.
Voice communication is said to be labour intensive, time-consuming, and a potential cause of serious miscommunications known as 'talk back, read back' errors.
"Digital messages supposedly enable clearer, more efficient communication between air traffic controllers, pilots and airline operation centres."
With the introduction of Data Comm, NextGen will be able to provide streamlined, two-way data exchanges between air traffic controllers and flight crews for instructions, advisories, clearances, flight crew requests and reports.
Digital messages supposedly enable clearer, more efficient communication between air traffic controllers, pilots and airline operation centres.
This will improve the productivity of air traffic controllers and pilots, enhance safety and reduce flight delays, as well as allow airplanes to fly more direct routes.
Data Comm will be used by US and international airlines operating at Los Angeles International Airport, including British Airways, Air New Zealand, Air Tahiti Nui, AirBridge, Cargolux, Delta, Emirates, Etihad, Executive Jet, FedEx, Hawaiian, Korean, Qatar, Scandinavian, Singapore, Southwest, Sunset, United, UPS and Virgin America.
Last year, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began installing Data Comm in air traffic control towers, with an aim to deploy the technology in more than 50 towers by the end of 2016.
In 2019, the solution will be installed in air traffic control facilities that handle high-altitude traffic.
