TSA expands new explosives detection canine team at Greater Rochester airport

TIN news:    New York's Greater Rochester International Airport is expanding its explosives detection canine team as part of a collaboration between the airport, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
A German shepherd named Lola and her handler, a Monroe County sheriff's deputy, have been appointed after completing almost three months of training at TSA's National Canine Training Centre in San Antonio, Texas, US.
In a bid to improve safety for passengers, the new team will join two existing canine teams already working at the airport.
TSA trains and deploys state and local law enforcement-led canine teams for aviation, cargo, maritime, multimodal, and mass transit environments.
"The new team will join two existing canine teams already working at the airport."
The organisation pays for and trains dogs and handlers, offers training aides and explosive storage magazines, and conducts annual on-site canine team re-certifications.
TSA's National Explosives Detection Canine Team Programme is the largest programme of its type in the Department of Homeland Security and the second largest in the federal government, after the US Department of Defense.
The three dogs in Greater Rochester International Airport include two German shepherds and one German short-haired pointer.
