Iran re - elected to ILO governing body

TIN news:   The Islamic Republic of Iran has been re-elected as a main member of the governing body of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Iran’s Acting Minister of Cooperative, Labor and Social Welfare said.
 
Mohammad Taqi Hosseini told the Tasnim News Agency  on Tuesday that the ILO member states on Monday overwhelmingly voted for Iran to serve as a main member of the ILO governing body for the second consecutive term.
 
The voting took place at the ILO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, where the 103rd Session of the International Labor Conference is underway from May 28 until June 12.
 
Hosseini said Iran’s presence on the governing body is of great importance given the fact that it is the main decision-making body within the ILO and given the organization’s role in supervising the implementation of fundamental conventions.
 
He added that Iran plays a major role in the ILO and has extensive cooperation with the global body.
 
The Governing Body is the executive body of the International Labor Organization. It meets three times a year, in March, June and October. It takes decisions on ILO policy, decides the agenda of the International Labor Conference, adopts the draft Programme and Budget of the Organization for submission to the Conference, and elects the Director-General.
 
The International Labor Organization aims to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection and strengthen dialogue on work-related issues.
