EU Grant for foldable shipping container

TIN news:   The Delft firm Holland Container Innovations (HCI) has been awarded a grant for the further development of its foldable shipping container 4FOLD. The funding, to the amount of EUR 2.5 million, is provided via the SME instrument of the European innovation programme Horizon 2020.
Every year, the transport sector spends some EUR 25 billion on moving around empty containers – an activity that produces an unnecessarily high volume of carbon emissions. After being emptied out, the 4FOLD containers can be collapsed to one-quarter of their original size. “Companies need to lower their costs, and the global demand for CO2 reduction measures continues to grow,” says Simon Bosschieter, one of the founders of HCI. “We can make the difference. This grant from the European SME instrument will enable HCI to accelerate 4FOLD’s market introduction. We need to organise a large-scale demonstration to convince the entire logistics sector of the container’s added value. This funding opens new doors for our innovative product.”
