New loss prevention initiative to promote safety awareness

TIN news:   The ‘Confidential Hazardous Incident Reporting Programme’ (CHIRP) works to retain information regarding incidents or near-misses and then distributes this knowledge to assist others to learn from these experiences. Their latest initiative, sponsored by The Standard Club, is the production of new ‘video maritime feedback bulletins’ which are due to be released on a quarterly basis and available to download for use on a PC or tablet, DVD or USB drive.
This new approach to hazardous incident reporting is designed to provide even easier access to the lessons learned by CHIRP, in a communication medium and format that is commonly used by its target audience.
Each eight minute production will serve to promote good safety practice and provide opportunities for ship owners and operators to compare their organisation’s own performance in such matters.
It is also hoped that the introduction of visual/audio media will encourage growth in the reporting of hazardous incidents especially those types of incidents which in the experience of CHIRP have been less commonly reported in the past.
Capt. Yves Vandenborn, Director, Loss Prevention said:
‘We are delighted to be supporting Capt. Rose and his team at the International Confidential Hazardous Incident Reporting Programme (CHIRP) as they develop new ways of the communicating the important lessons learned from near misses and minor incidents. The Standard Club recognises the crucial importance of this activity in our own efforts to reduce losses and accidents in the international maritime industry.’
