Benoa Port to Handle Direct International Shipments in January

TIN news:  State port operator Pelabuhan Indonesia III is set to start its export and import services from Benoa port next month as part of the government’s efforts to increase international trade in Bali.
Bali exporters must currently transit their merchandise in Tanjung Perak in Surabaya, costing businesses time and money.
The port operator, known as Pelindo III, is now finalizing the preparation stages of a separate area in Benoa port to handle containers for international trade as well as for customs-related purposes.
“This move would push down operational costs and cut overall logistic costs,” said Purwanto Wahyu Widodo, a commercial operation manager at Pelindo III, as quoted by Antaranews.com.
Benoa port, Bali largest seaport, now only handles one large cargo ship every six days, Purwanto said.
After the upgrade, the port will be able to service two cargo ships, for international destinations and domestic trade.
