Alstom to supply Panamá City Line ۲ trains

TIN news:         Alstom Transport announced on September 24 that it is to supply 21 five-car Metropolis trainsets to operate Panamá City metro Line 2.

A consortium led by Alstom and including TSO-CIM, Thales and Sofratesa was awarded the contract to undertake E&M work in July. The contract is worth US$128·5m and includes an option for three years of maintenance valued at US$6·8m; Alstom’s share is €300m.

As with the 19 three-car trains that Alstom supplied for Line 1, the rolling stock is to be built at its Santa Perpètua de Mogoda factory in Spain.

Alstom is also to supply its Urbalis communications-based train control with a design headway of 90 sec. It will provide the traction substations, including Hesop reversible substation technology for energy recovery.

Running from Nuevo Tocumen to San Miguelito, the 21 km elevated Line 2 is being built by the Línea 2 consortium of FCC and Odebrecht. It is expected to open in 2019 and has a design capacity for 40 000 passengers/h per direction
