LB port’s movement of volumes sets record for July

TIN news:           July has become a record month for the Port of Long Beach, as cargo-container volumes have risen by 18.4 percent compared to the same month in 2014, the port announced last week.

The gains in July mark the fourth time in the last five months that cargo totals have climbed significantly higher, according to Port officials.

The port’s terminals moved 690,244 20-foot equivalent container units (TEUs), imports increased by 16.2 percent and exports increased by 15.9 percent, all improvements from last year in July.

“These exceptional results are great news for Long Beach and the nation’s economy,” said Jon Slangerup, Port chief executive officer. “We’ve worked closely with all of our stakeholders to prepare for our peak season, which is off to a great start with very strong back-to-school shipments and our best export month in a year. We applaud our partners for their role in these impressive results.”

According to the Port of Long Beach, the import gains in the past five months are: 18.4 percent in July,4.8 percent in May, 7.3 percent in April and 42.1 percent in March.
