Constantine tram extension contract

TIN news:      Entreprise Metro d’Alger has awarded a three-year contract to extend the Constantine tram line to a consortium of Alstom, Corsan, Corviam and Cosider. Announcing the contract on July 30, Alstom said that its share is worth €80m.

The 10 km extension would take the line south from Zouaghi Slimane to Ali Mendjeli and Mohamed Boudiaf International Airport. Alstom is to supply track, catenary, signalling and telecoms, substations and ticketing equipment, and will act as systems integrator.

The additional vehicles required would be manufactured at the Annaba factory which the CITAL joint venture of Alstom, Ferrovial and EMA inaugurated earlier this year.

The initial 8·1 km tram line in Constantine opened in 2013 between Benabdelmalek and Zouaghi, and has so far carried more than 7·2 million passengers.

Alstom is currently supplying infrastructure for tramways in Ouargla, Mostagamen and Sétif.
