TIN news:  UK's Hoppecke Industrial Batteries has been selected by Siemens for a project-specific service level agreement for battery systems on South West Trains (SWT) operated rolling stock. 
Hoppecke and Siemens have also signed a similar contract covering trains operating out of Moorgate in London.
Hoppecke Industrial Batteries Special & Reserve Power Systems national sales manager Paul Butchart said: “These important Thameslink and South West Trains and Moorgate long-term service contracts and our work with the other rolling stock manufacturers puts us at the forefront of energy management solutions for the rail power sector.”
Under the two long-term service agreements (LTSAs) for SWT and Moorgate, Hoppecke will provide services such as after-sales support, spare parts, and warranty support services to Siemens’ Desiro City trains.
A battery box equipped within the trains includes chargers with switches and a built-in electrical distribution system delivering 108V of power.
The box incorporates Hoppecke’s rail.power VR lead acid battery and a tray that moves along C-rails.

Hoppecke Industrial Batteries Northern Europe regional managing director Jason Howlett said: "This vote of confidence from Siemens confirms our ability to deliver high-technology battery systems for many different types of rolling stock.
"We are delighted to have won this contract and to be powering trains across the UK and around the world."
So far, Siemens has incorporated Hoppecke batteries in around 75% of its trains worldwide and nearly 90% of its trains in the UK.
Hoppecke’s power systems, which use nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lead acid and lithium ion batteries, operate in roughly 50% of the UK’s rolling stock.
