TIN news:  Webber, a subsidiary of Ferrovial, has secured a $192m contract from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to expand an 13km section of the US 281 between Loop 1604 and Borgfeld Drive, in Bexar County, San Antonio.
Ferrovial is a global construction company that has been engaged in construction of infrastructures and toll roads.
Under the deal, Webber will be adding three new lanes, of which two lanes will be for general use and one lane will be dedicated for high-occupancy vehicles in each direction.
The project will see four interchanges with Loop 1604 and a direct connection to a park-and-ride facility with access to VIA Metropolitan Transit (San Antonio’s public transport system).
It will also include construction frontage roads for bicycles and pedestrians.
Bexar County is reported to be the fourth largest in Texas, with nearly 1.8 million residents.
"Two lanes will be for general use and one lane will be dedicated for high-occupancy vehicles in each direction."
It is part of the San Antonio metropolitan area, the third most crowded area in the state, after Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston.
Ferrovial is strengthening its position in Texas, where it manages the LBJ and NTE highways in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, through its highway subsidiary Cintra.
Recently, Webber also secured a contract to expand I-45 in Walker County, north of Houston, US.
