Georgia Ports: Hurricane Matthew Update

TIN news:   The Georgia Ports Authority’s senior team met late this afternoon to review plans for re-opening its facilities in both Savannah and Brunswick. Highlights from that meeting included:
By Noon tomorrow (Sunday, October 9), GPA team members will assemble at the Garden City Container Terminal for clean-up operations.
Power has been re-established to many of the cranes and yard equipment at the container terminal and the information technology system is up and running. Power has begun to be restored to Savannah’s distribution and logistics partners.
The GPA team is working closely with the U.S Army Corps of Engineers’ Savannah District, the U.S Coast Guard and the river pilots to re-open the river channel as soon as possible.
The GPA team is coordinating with the local International Longshoremen Association, Customs and Border Protection, the Georgia Environmental Management Authority, Georgia Power and Governor Nathan Deal’s Office to determine the earliest possible date to re-open the Port of Savannah.
In Brunswick, GPA’s management team and contractors will be onsite tomorrow to fully assess impact and develop a work plan.
