Wizz Air A320 Lands After E-Cigarette Begins To Emit Smoke

A Wizz Air Airbus A320 performing flight from Keflavik (Iceland) to Wroclaw with 147 people on board, was climbing out of Keflavik when an electronic cigarette of a passenger began to emit smoke prompting the flight crew to declare emergency and return.

The cabin crew secured and cooled the device and stored it into a safe container. The aircraft landed safely back in Keflavik about 40 minutes after departure, emergency services did not need to intervene anymore.

The airline reported a device belonging to a passenger began to burn in the cabin. The crew dealt with the device and alerted emergency services, who received the aircraft upon landing. The occurrence is being investigated.

The aircraft was able to depart again about 4 hours after the first departure and reached Wroclaw with a delay of 3.5 hours.
